Each card shows one configuration that matches your filters or needs a clearly labeled check. Open it to choose other published configurations; the catalog does not list every possible option package. Photos may show a different year, trim or colour. Prices are research snapshots, not live offers. Limited availability can mean regional or limited production.
Confidence starts with context.
A useful shortlist starts with honest comparisons. Small score differences do not prove one vehicle is better.
What’s in the catalog01
Canadian model families across mainstream, luxury, specialist and electric brands, covering gas, full hybrids, plug-in hybrids, battery electric and hydrogen, with separate entries for major powertrain and drivetrain choices. Sedans, hatchbacks, coupes, convertibles, wagons, crossovers, SUVs, pickups, minivans and light commercial vans are included. Each card names the representative configuration. Follow its sources for the complete trim range.
The catalog combines 2026 Natural Resources Canada ratings, selected 2025 carryovers and manufacturer lineup overviews. Each configuration keeps its own model year. Specialist brands and limited-allocation models appear with an availability note. Announced models are optional. Local inventory and ordering availability must be confirmed with a Canadian retailer. Used-only brands, motorcycles, commercial heavy trucks and private imports are outside the scope; this is a research snapshot, not a guarantee that every vehicle or trim is on sale.
Body categories are practical browsing labels. AWD and selectable 4WD are separate filters. Mild-hybrid engines are grouped with gas; the Hybrid filter is reserved for full hybrids.
How the ranking works02
Your score is the weighted sum of the category scores below, out of 100. Weights normalize to 100%; all-zero sliders give every category equal weight. Filtering does not change a configuration’s score. The three suggestions are the first three distinct models in your filtered, sorted results. Each model uses its best matching configuration for the chosen sort, preferring configurations that confirm your selected requirements. Searches put closer text matches first. Within equally relevant matches, cars with usable evidence for your selected filters come before cars missing that evidence, then your priority score decides the order. A model starting MSRP counts as provisional budget evidence; its selected configuration may cost more. Unknown candidates stay visible. Other sort options follow their named value. Equal scores use a stable alphabetical model order, with no manufacturer bonus.
Everyday balance: 35% price, 30% space estimate, 20% winter practicality and 15% driving character. Fun to drive: 70% driving character, 15% price, 10% space and 5% winter practicality. Winter & comfort: 55% winter practicality, 25% space, 15% price and 5% driving character. Lowest price: sorts by Canadian MSRP or labeled starting MSRP, lowest first. These weights are editorial choices; you can change them.
Driving character combines 60% of the body-style estimate below and 40% horsepower score. Horsepower score = 10 × (hp − 100) / 400, clipped to 0–10. More published power helps distinguish configurations with the same body style, but does not establish acceleration, handling or driving enjoyment. Comfort & space uses the body-style estimate only; it does not measure cabin dimensions, seat comfort or ride quality.
| Body style | Driving estimate | Comfort & space estimate |
|---|
Winter practicality combines 65% driven-wheel estimate (AWD 8.5/10, 4WD 8, FWD 6.5, RWD 5) and 35% ground-clearance score. Clearance score = 10 × (mm − 100) / 180, clipped to 0–10. Clearance is a deep-snow practicality cue, not a wet-grip or braking test. Tires, speed and conditions matter. A missing component contributes neutral 5/10; it is not a measurement. Only numeric configuration specifications are used, not model-range text. The formulas and endpoints are design judgments applied equally to all makes. The neutral-weather switch overrides the whole winter score to 5. Clicking a preset turns that override off.
Reliability and maintenance remain neutral at 5 for every brand because comparable evidence is missing. They have zero weight in the presets. A narrow selection or identical available inputs can legitimately produce the same suggestions under different priorities; ties are not shuffled.
Choosing a preset preserves every active filter and your search. You can select several manufacturers; a car can be from any selected manufacturer and is excluded when a known specification conflicts with another active filter. Search supports multiple words and common spellings such as CRV and F150. Announced models stay behind the separate availability switch. Lowest price keeps unpriced models in the results, after those with a verified Canadian price. A “From” price is the model’s starting MSRP, not a promise that the selected configuration costs that amount. By default, a verified model starting price may qualify a model provisionally for a budget. This never confirms that its selected engine, drivetrain or trim is affordable. Exact prices take precedence, so a known over-budget configuration is excluded even if its family starts lower. Unpriced models stay visible as “Needs a check” under a price limit; they are not claimed to be affordable. The same rule applies to missing engine, gearbox, drive-wheel, body, power-type and comparable gas-use details. “Confirmed matches only” optionally hides configurations with missing information for any selected requirement. It does not certify every specification or live availability.
Price score = 10 × (100,000 − MSRP) / 80,000. Petrol economy score = 10 × (16 − L/100 km) / 12. Both are clipped to 0–10. These endpoints are design choices. Unverified inputs use a disclosed neutral 5/10; that is not a measurement. Unknown inputs are labeled instead of silently excluded. A known value outside an active limit still excludes the configuration.
Petrol economy has zero weight in the default presets because the catalog includes different powertrains. If you turn it up, it applies to verified gas and full-hybrid ratings; EVs, plug-ins and hydrogen remain neutral at 5. Set it to zero when comparing different powertrains. This is not an operating-cost calculator.
What we know — and what we don’t03
Published facts: NRCan standardized fuel-consumption and range ratings, and specifications from linked Canadian manufacturer publications or named dealer listings. Ratings are not a guarantee of real-world fuel use or range. A government rating name does not always establish a drivetrain; those entries say “See specifications.” The original Honda prices are the MSRP shown by Cobourg Honda, Ontario. Additional Canadian manufacturer starting prices are marked “From”; price sources and source years appear in the details. Freight, fees, taxes, options and incentives are excluded from the price ranking. Figures can change.
Measured context: the original Camry and CR-V test references are from different US trims. They are labeled and not transferred to these exact Canadian configurations or used as direct ranking inputs.
Unknowns: unverified numbers stay unverified. A missing price is never treated as free. Electric range is not promised winter range. Le/100 km is litres of gasoline-equivalent energy, not actual gasoline used; plug-in figures also depend on charging and test assumptions. These equivalent ratings are displayed separately from petrol ratings.
Weather & ownership04
AWD and 4WD describe how power reaches the wheels; they do not establish wet grip, braking distance or cornering limits. Tires, speed and surface conditions matter. Part-time 4WD and full-time systems require different operation; follow the vehicle manual.
Check seat fit and rough-road ride on a test drive. Obtain local servicing, insurance and winter-tire quotes. Check recalls for the exact VIN. For EVs and plug-ins, verify home charging and winter route range; for Mirai, verify usable hydrogen infrastructure. A warranty is not proof of long-term reliability.

Catalog expanded 21 September 2026. NRCan fuel and battery-electric files updated 18 September 2026; plug-in hybrid file updated 28 July 2026. Original Toyota/Honda pricing was checked 17 September 2026. Manufacturer specification profiles were checked 22 September 2026. Priority estimates use one shared method for all brands. This is a static research snapshot with model years explicitly labeled. Manufacturer launch prices and dealer listings can change. Open a card’s evidence for the sources supporting that configuration.
